Vegelateria: The taste of summer
“Chocolate orange and banana,” I finally reply after extensive reflection. We have been tasting different vegan ice-creams – the so-called Vegelato – at Walter Dänzer’s takeaway Vegelateria. This didn’t render the decision-making process any easier. Based on soyananda (a vegan alternative to full cream) and organic full rice milk, and sweetened with organic raw sugar, organic fruits or organic fruit juice, the different tastes are more noticeable than in normal ice cream. The handmade Vegelatos contain just 10 per cent air, and therefore have more bite and intensity. What a compliment to the pioneers of vegan cooking!
